When you encounter issues accessing a particular website on your computer, it can be frustrating. Follow Join’s troubleshooting tips to identify the issue and get you back online!
Step 0: Restart your device
This may be the easiest piece of advice, but has resolved network issues here at Join more than any other tip. If it has been more than a few hours since your last reboot, give this a shot!
Step 1: Check Internet Connection
Ensure your computer is connected to the internet. Verify that other websites can load properly.
If other websites are working fine, but the specific website won't load, move on to the next step.
Step 2: Clear Browser Cache and Cookies
Sometimes, corrupted cache or cookies can prevent a website from loading. Clear the cache and cookies of your web browser. Most browsers can perform this via the settings menu and selecting the option to clear cache and browsing history.
Step 3: Disable Browser Extensions
Browser extensions such as Adblock or Tab Suspender can sometimes interfere with website loading. Try temporarily Disabling all extensions or opening the browser in incognito, then try accessing the website again.
Step 4: Use a Different Browser
Try loading the website on a different web browser to see if the problem is browser-specific. If it loads in another browser, the issue may be with your original browser or possibly a recently installed update.
Step 5: Check for Firewall or Antivirus Restrictions
Firewalls or antivirus software might be blocking access to the website. Temporarily disable them and try accessing the website again.
If the website loads after disabling the firewall or antivirus, adjust their settings to allow access to the website while keeping your computer protected. You may need to coordinate with your administrator or technical support team in order to review these settings.
Step 6: Test with a Different Device
To determine if the issue is specific to your computer, try accessing the website from a different device such as your phone. If the website loads on other devices but not on your computer, the problem is likely isolated to your computer and can help you narrow down the approach.
Step 7: Check DNS Settings
Incorrect DNS settings can prevent a website from loading.
On Windows: Open Command Prompt and type "ipconfig /flushdns" to reset DNS cache.
On macOS and Linux: Open Terminal and type "sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder" to reset DNS cache.
